What Global Uncertainty Actually Means for Your L.A. Home Search 🏡

JED.i Journal

If you’ve turned on the news lately, you’ve probably felt a familiar knot in your stomach. Conflict in the Middle East and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have sent oil prices swinging, inflation concerns are back in the headlines, and political unrest here at home has left a lot of people feeling like the ground beneath them, literally and figuratively, is less stable than it used to be. If you’re thinking about buying or selling a home in Los Angeles right now, it’s fair to ask: does any of this actually matter for me?

The Honest Answer

In my professional opinion, it matters less than you’d think, and here’s why. Los Angeles real estate has never really behaved like the stock market. People aren’t buying homes in the Hollywood Hills or West Hollywood based on quarterly earnings calls or overnight oil price swings. They’re buying because of something far more durable: the scarcity of land, the weather, and a lifestyle that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else in the same way. LA is very much an insulated market with correction guard rails.

The Right Time to Buy Isn’t About the Headlines

So I believe the right time to buy has less to do with the headlines and more to do with you — when the cash to close and the monthly payment make sense, and life simply calls for it. Chasing readiness will always serve you better than chasing the market. Just ask any Gen X-er or boomer still renting today, who once had the chance to buy in L.A. when properties were going for $400,000 or less, and decided to wait for the market to drop instead. Waiting for perfect can cost you the opportunity entirely. 📉➡️📈

We’ve Seen This Before

We saw a version of this play out during the pandemic. Remember when everyone was predicting a mass exodus from L.A., and for a moment, it looked like it might happen? People left for Austin, for Boise, for anywhere with more space and lower cost of living. But a lot of them came back. And that return says something important: the things that make Los Angeles valuable, the weather, the culture, the sheer concentration of opportunity and money here, aren’t easily replaced.

On the numbers front, while national appreciation has cooled and some markets have genuinely dipped into negative territory this year, Los Angeles has continued to hold its ground more steadily than most, a pattern that’s shown up again and again through past periods of global stress.

Bottom Line

I believe everyone can buy a home; it just takes the right strategy and time, and there’s no better time than now to start building that plan. 🔑
